Mindfulness — Supporting Inner Peace

Featuring James Butler, SEL Mindfulness Specialist and 2014 ASID Teacher of the Year

The Mindfulness Family Night is an interactive learning experience for the whole family. We will learn about the brain benefits of mindfulness, tips for practicing at home & how to make mindfulness fun, how mindfulness supports peace education, and spend time practicing simple mindfulness activities that anyone can do. This event is sure to provide tools to help ourselves and our kids be more present and less distracted.

About James Butler

James Butler works with teachers, parents and PreK-12th grade students in the Austin, TX Independent School District. Previously, he taught for 13 years primarily in Early Childhood. In 2016, Mr. Butler founded Mindful Classrooms and wrote a mindfulness curriculum for educators called Mindful Classrooms now being used in 6 states as well as in Dubai. He also just wrote the children’s book Mindfulness Is.

How Mindfulness Supports Peace Education in Montessori Schools

Peace Education is a cornerstone of Montessori Schools, and mindfulness is an excellent tool to use in the classroom to support Peace Education. Mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment with kindness. The interactive workshop will highlight how to introduce mindfulness in the classroom, brain benefits and how to explain those to students, tips and strategies for simple implementation, and exploration of tools and resources.

Learn about the AMS Pathway to Continuous Improvement

Peter Piché, The AMS Pathway to Continuous Improvement Concierge will address all your questions about your school’s pathway toward accreditation. Where is your school now, and where do you see it going? Peter will help you plot out your individual Pathway.

Take Accreditation Visit Team Member Training

If you are currently working at or have worked at an accredited Montessori school and are interested in being on an accreditation visiting team, attend this training to learn about all aspects of being on a visiting team. Visiting team members receive continuing education credits through AMS, contribute to their professional community, and have the opportunity to visit other quality Montessori schools. Visiting Team Member Training will be conducted by Peter Piché and E. McCrae Harrison (AMS School Accreditation Commission).
